Graveland Deathfest was an open-air metal festival that took place on 11 July 2015 on Albartsweg in Hollandscheveld (Hoogeveen). The festival primarily showcased the more extreme subgenres of metal, such as black metal, death metal, and grindcore.
Belphegor [aut]: Formed in Salzburg, Austria, in 1991, this extreme metal band combines black metal and death metal into a fast, aggressive sound marked by dark atmosphere and blasphemous themes.
Terrorizer LA [usa]: Formed in Los Angeles in 2014 by original Terrorizer vocalist Oscar Garcia, this incarnation continued the band’s grindcore legacy with a lineup drawn from the city’s extreme metal and hardcore scenes.
Pentacle [nld]: Formed in Bladel, the Netherlands, in 1989, this death metal band draws on the early extreme metal traditions of Celtic Frost, Hellhammer and Possessed. Combining raw death metal riffs with darker, doomladen passages, the band had remained committed to the sound and underground ethos of the late 1980’s.
Snowburner [nld]: Formed in Leiden, the Netherlands, this stoner rock band combines fuzz-heavy guitar riffs, blues influences and direct, punk-tinged songwriting. Drawing on the sounds of Fu Manchu, Clutch and Red Fang, the band brings together musicians with backgrounds in the Dutch punk and hardcore scenes. Its music balances heavy, groove-driven passages with concise, energetic rock.
Svffer [deu]: Formed in 2012 by musicians from Münster and Bielefeld, Germany, this band combined hardcore, grindcore and powerviolence with elements of screamo and crust. Driven by rapid tempo changes, blast beats and intense vocals, their sound paired abrasive aggression with complex structures.
Entrapment [nld]: Formed in Groningen in 2009, this Dutch death metal project was led by multi-instrumentalist Michel Jonker, who handled the studio recordings while a separate lineup performed live. Drawing on the Swedish old-school death metal sound, the music combined heavy, abrasive riffs with darker atmospheric passages.
Pyre [rus]: Formed in Saint Petersburg in May 2011, this Russian death metal band draws on the raw, traditional sound of old-school death metal.
The Hyle [dnk]: Formed in Denmark in 2014, this doom metal band combines slow, heavy riffs with dark, atmospheric passages and occult themes.
Teethgrinder [nld]: Formed in Zwolle, the Netherlands, in early 2013, this extreme metal band emerged from the earlier groups DrDoom and Greyline. Its sound combines grindcore with black metal, incorporating crust, sludge, hardcore and post-metal influences.
